Stephen Ocampo Villegas is a 22 year old self-taught visual artist from Colombia, also know as Steoville. “Steoville” comes from the combination of Stephen’s name with his surnames. His work up until now has predominantly been personal, although he plans to go back to school to study plastic arts.

  1. How does social media affect you and you art?

Social networks have positively affected me. I usually do not publish much of my personal life, but it is in my work.

  1. Why did you start taking photos?

I started taking photos as a hobby. Then came the process of exploration. So I chose myself as subject matter; to express emotions through this new form of communication. To transmit and to liberate you. All that happened after I thought taking photos was only a “hobby”.

  1. Do your parents like your work?

Not really, no. I think because they were accustomed to a very different way. I respect the decisions of them as well as they respect mine. I think we are free to do whatever we want as long as you do not hurt anyone.

  1. What can’t you leave home without?

My phone ( obviously ).

  1. What are your working on right now?

Maybe right now I’m not working at all. I plan to start studying plastic arts in the middle of the year. I really like sculpture.

  1. How do you get your practice out when it is stuck?

I try to look for inspiration in other things. First, I try to relax a little, do other things that do not have to do with art and sometimes it works. Clear the mind a little.
