Ricoh Yuzi

My name is Ricoh Yuzi, I’m from San Mateo(The Bay Area) and I shoot on my iPhone.

Tell us about the works that we’re featuring?

The work that is being featured are photos of the everyday people & daily beat of The Bay Area. Up close photos of strangers I pass by on the street.

How does social media affect your art?

Social media has played a big role in the photos I’ve taken over the past few years. From photo meetups to meeting other photographers throughout The Bay and faraway. I keep finding work that inspires me & helps me be more creative when I go out to shoot.

Do your parents like your work?

There was a few times when I did show my photos to my parents. I didn’t expect their bland reaction to the photos. It feel like it was “alright, that’s cool I guess” and they went about their business. Ever since then I haven’t showed them any. It’s okay I have a lot of support from close friends.

What can’t you leave home without?

The things that I can’t leave home without are my pack, phone & headphones. When I go out I have all these items to get me through a day of shooting. I need music when I’m shooting because it helps me get into my rhythm.

What are you working on right now?

I’m currently working on my first Zine titled “Beat Street.” It’s at the beginning stages. It will be about the people I’ve come across on the streets. I have thousands of photos in my library so it’s going to take awhile but I’m excited to start it.
