Jeff Sutera

Jeff is a photographer based in NYC, focusing on fashion and portraiture. He grew up among a family of photographers and learned a lot of what he knows from his older brother. He attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and has also lived in NYC, LA, Texas and Florida. He most recently worked for Milk Studios on NY.

Tell us about the works that we’re featuring?

The work here is a mix of recent personal work and backstage photos I shot during fashion week in NY and Milan.

How does social media affect you and your art?

Social media, especially Instagram, has played a huge role for me. I’m technically putting my work out there for millions to see. (Of course not everyone on Instagram will see it.) But before social media, it was much harder to have your work seen with such ease.

Do your parents like your work?

My mom’s 50 likes a day on Instagram makes me think yes.

What can’t you leave home without?

My little point and shoot camera, it’s my way of forcing myself to shoot daily.

Why did you start taking photos?

Nearly everyone in my family is a photographer (except my parents) so I’m sure that played a role. I was always shy growing up, taking photos really helped me open up and express myself.

What are you working on right now?

I have a few projects in the works. One with my 8×10 camera that I’m really excited about. Also, a holiday cat calendar I’m hoping to sell for charity, so keep an eye out for that.
